Bowling, Arcade, + Strawberry Lemonade

Here on Planet Earth, it’s a fact that we all must learn to grow up as we get older – you know, all those serious responsibilities and such. It’s also a fact that the little kid inside of us never fully disappears; quite the opposite, actually. A word of advice for all the adults out there: don’t neglect that inner child for too long! Scary stuff happens if you do – perhaps a permanent furrowed brow or the loss of ability to enjoy the little things. To counter those dangers, enter the latest weekend outing: a trip to the bowling alley.

Our Activity Specialists Courtney and Fatu were gracious enough to spend their Saturday with two of our clients, Jean and Amber. When deciding where to go on this outing, Jean and Amber didn’t hesitate – they wanted to hit the bowling lanes and work up an appetite. The clients universally seem to love bowling, and for good reason – it’s one of the most adaptive sports for our clients who possess all levels of abilities. Right down the street from our Livingston day program is the Hanover Lanes bowling alley located in East Hanover, NJ; we have attended many an outing there in the past. Arguably, the best part of the bowling alley is the arcade in the back room that contains the holy grail of all arcade machines: the air hockey table. Courtney did want us to emphasize that she kicked Amber’s butt twice in air hockey – and we can guarantee that Amber is looking forward to the rematch.

It was a day filled with the simple things, which always end up becoming the most memorable. After the group had their fill of the Hanover Lanes, they grabbed lunch at The Office, a casual restaurant that is a client and staff favorite. They found a cozy table outside on a beautiful Spring day and indulged in cold glasses of lemonade. We dare you to think of a better community outing than that.
