Physical Therapy

Physical Therapy

UIRehab’s Physical Therapy program focuses on restoring and strengthening the physical abilities of Clients with brain injury, spinal cord injury, or other neurological conditions. Our home and community-based physical therapy services are part of the continuum of care that concentrates on improving motor function, minimizing physical disabilities, and restoring normal movement patters to maximize independence, safety, and the ability to perform daily activities in a way that enhances quality of life and makes it possible to enjoy independent living.

The Benefits

Physical Therapy provides the foundation of an individual’s mobility and physical rehabilitation.  It improves a client’s quality of life through examination, diagnosis, prognosis, physical intervention, and education.  A Physical Therapist will evaluate their client’s ability to change positions, sit, stand, walk, and maneuver through their environment whether it is via wheelchair or by foot.

To aid in achieving maximum independence, a physical therapist will recommend use of assistive devices, orthotics, prosthetics, and different types of wheelchairs.  After a thorough evaluation, a physical therapist develops and implements an individualized treatment program and plan of care optimizing movement, flexibility, strength, muscle control, and balance.

Various therapeutic techniques, along with special equipment, such as a gait training system, are utilized to achieve therapeutic goals to prevent disability, promote the ability to move, restore function, and to manage a variety of conditions to attain long-term health benefits and achieve their highest functional independence.
