Speech Therapy

Speech Therapy

UIRehab’s Speech Therapy program has been developed specifically for adults who are living with brain injury, spinal cord injury, or other neurological conditions.

Benefits

Our Speech Therapy Department is dedicated to providing diagnostic and skilled intervention services addressing congenital and acquired communication disorders, including impairments of language (aphasia), speech (dysarthria, apraxia, voice, fluency), swallowing (dysphagia), and cognitive-communication.  All of our licensed speech-language pathologists hold certificates of clinical competence from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association to ensure that effective, reliable, and cutting-edge evidence-based treatment approaches are implemented in individual and/or group treatment settings.

UIRehab’s unique and dynamic rehabilitation facility provides on-going opportunities for individualized therapy goals to be targeted in functional environments, fostering authentic, relevant, and motivating communication experiences.  As advocates and practitioners of a radically innovative clinical philosophy, we will continue to strive for excellence in rendering therapeutic services aimed at functional improvement, long-term maintenance of skills, and an overall improved quality of life.

DDD: The Speech Department provides comprehensive diagnostic and treatment services to clients with developmental disabilities.  Treatment approaches include implementation of multi-modal augmentative alternative communication and assistive technologies to promote opportunities for naturalistic communication and sensory exploration.  Our unique facility adapts treatment approaches and materials to provide clients with exposure to settings that are engaging, functional, and dynamic.

DIETS: The Speech Department plays an integral role in ensuring client safety by monitoring and maintaining prescribed dysphagia diets in the rehabilitation and residential programs.  We provide comprehensive resources and hands-on training including demonstrations and active participation in modifying food choices to achieve different levels of diet preparation.
