Barbie Halloween

A Barbie Halloween

The following is what happens when the therapists of our TRU department are given free reign on a Halloween contest. Rather than this post focusing on a specific therapy or modality, sometimes it’s easier to show the end result and work backwards – therefore, feast your eyes on the extraordinary creativity of our TRU department.

Every year at the end of October the Livingston Day Program throws a Halloween costume contest between all the departments. For their choice of costume theme this year, TRU decided to surf the Barbie wave that’s been taking the world by storm. And there’s no group of therapists better able to bring Barbie to life than those imaginative brains of our Cog/Tru department.

I don’t have anything big planned. Just a giant blowout party with all the Barbies, planned choreography, and a bespoke song. You should stop by!

This day wouldn’t have been possible without the help of Construction Ken, also known as Greg the Great, who has been one of our maintenance men for many years. The life-sized Barbie box was built out of plywood; the front cover was made from cardboard wrapped in pink wrapping paper; the Barbie letters and the Mattel logo were designed and cut using the cricut machine. Lastly, the clear plastic displayed in the front of the box was made from a roll of acetate plastic sheets. It sounds like a part chemistry, part woodworking project, but when the Barbie box was finished, we bet Mattel themselves couldn’t find a single flaw in the design.

On days like these, it’s necessary for the therapists to let loose and show their creative sides. It’s important to remind the world that our UI Rehab therapists are like diamonds – no matter which side of themselves they show you, they will sparkle and radiate all the same. The clients love when the staff are involved in any kind of contest or event; it excites them and inspires them to give it their all for their own events and competitions. But really, it’s just fun to see the therapists get silly from time to time. So, from TRU to you, Happy Halloween!

Shredding waves is much more dangerous than people realize.
